BOC/Ponca to Kyle’s Landing
Drove in from Clarksville, Arkansas. It took me about 1h 30m. I parked at the Buffalo Outdoor Center (BOC). They will shuttle my car to Pruitt Tuesday.
I got to the Ponca trail head at 8:50 AM which is mile marker 11 of the BRT.
I only found water only at the river crossing. No other marked water was running.
Lunch was a bit after noon at MM 15.3. 4.3 miles in about 3 hrs.
Tough climb and decent to end the day at Kyle’s Landing about 16:30-45. MM 20.9.
Big toe on left foot was very uncomfortable during final descent. Back was a little tinged but not too bad.
Running water in the bathhouse here. No shower unfortunately.
Paid for a campsite. Picked one with a pad, should have taken a grass one instead. Easier to pound in tent steaks.
None of the water on the map was running today except one early stream crossing and a stagnant pond.
Total people seen on trail (not at NFS campgrounds) was 5. All out and back day hikes from Steel Case. Don’t expect many more tomorrow which is a Monday.
Not sure what the temp got to today but it was pretty warm. There was a nice breeze for most of the day which helped. Mid upper 80s maybe? Tomorrow and Tuesday should be a bit cooler.
Dinner was Beef Stroganoff with Noodles by Mountain House. One of the better meals.
